Life Laid Bear

A weekend to remember

IMG_1258

This weekend was one for the history books, folks. It was full of lots of friends, fun, and rain. Rain didn't reallly contribute to the fun, but it did help with some really great sleep and a lazy Saturday.

I had a really great late birthday party with some of the best people I know. Of course, with all of the fun, I failed to get pictures of anyone but the girls. But one picture is better than none. Right? We also had two of our best friends come visit for the weekend, and we were completely overjoyed! Now, we just need them to move closer.

So now we are back to the work week after a wonderful weekend. We are going into a short one, so let's hope for a speedy one at that.

Honey Whiskey Sours

IMG_3363

I have never been a whiskey girl. If it isn't sweet, I don't drink it. Whiskey has always just tasted a little too boozy for me so I stayed away from it. So when I mentioned to Kyle that I wanted to try to substitute honey whiskey he was all for it. My guy loves a good whiskey sour.

The weather was warmer this weekend so I decided to make a batch of our own sour mix.The bottled kind is fine, but it tastes very sugary and artificial. I prefer to get my sugar coma from something a little more cupcake-y.

Sour mix could not be any simpler to make. This makes a large container.

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

1 cup lemon

1 cup lime

I stirred the sugar and water together until the sugar dissolved. Then I added the lemon and lime. That's it!

I added two ounces of honey whiskey and four ounces of our sour mix. It is fun and simple to make!

We spent the rest of the day outside with the pups and family. It is almost time to get back outside and in our pool! Almost is a little too strong a word considering we are being hit by another cold front, but we savor those nice sunny weekend days while we have them.

On the home front

IMG_0891

This summer we have worked really hard to get our house where we want it to be. Of course, it will never be perfect. Or really ever clean enough, but it is ours. When we first became homeowners, it just seemed to be too much for just the two of us to tackle. Life always got in the way, or more like we were lazy.

I had a minor breakdown this summer and finally just said I can't take it, we have got to get our crap together. So after a couple weekends of hard work and getting back on track, we are finally able to enjoy our pool and even our patio for the first time since we moved in (two years ago). I feel like we have accomplished so much this summer, but my to do list is still a mile long. I will finish that pesky to do list...eventually.

When I was old enough to move out, my parents gave me their record player. We have always had a place for it until we moved into this house. So I took our dresser and drilled holes in the back for the cords. The record player now fits perfect inside, and we can hide it when we aren't using it!

Just a little peek into some pieces that make up our home.

1. Bedroom dresser decorations. 2. Entry way to our house. 3. Purse holders are awesome, but I need to remember that it is not a purse graveyard. Move your purses lady. 4. Breaking out the fall decorations. 5. Our hoosier turned inside bar.

Most of these pictures are from Memorial Day weekend. This short week has been mostly about winding down after an awesome weekend with my family. I was so thankful that they were able to come visit for a couple days. It is always too short, but it will always be too short. I say it often, but my parents and brother are such a huge part of my life. I mean they did raise me! I miss them each and every day.

This past weekend was two years that we have been in our house. Two short years ago, both sides of our family busted their butt to paint, lay floor, clean, and deal with my bossiness for four long days. It just seems like yesterday, but I think we are slowly getting the hang of this home ownership thing. Maybe?

We spent the weekend eating, drinking, laughing by the pool and laughing way too much. By the way, how cute are my parents? Almost 30 years and they are still doing this in the local Waffle House. WH is our family tradition. We go almost every time we are together.

My dad and I worked on a couple pillows for our outside area. (I will talk more about them in a separate post). Who knew he was good with a sewing machine. Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back and boy was I excited! Fall, I am ready for you.

I don't get to see my brother much, he is a big basketball star and what not. Haven't seen his video. Don't fret, here it is! He is pretty great, and is in his senior year of high school.
