Life Laid Bear

A weekend to remember

IMG_1258

This weekend was one for the history books, folks. It was full of lots of friends, fun, and rain. Rain didn't reallly contribute to the fun, but it did help with some really great sleep and a lazy Saturday.

I had a really great late birthday party with some of the best people I know. Of course, with all of the fun, I failed to get pictures of anyone but the girls. But one picture is better than none. Right? We also had two of our best friends come visit for the weekend, and we were completely overjoyed! Now, we just need them to move closer.

So now we are back to the work week after a wonderful weekend. We are going into a short one, so let's hope for a speedy one at that.

The Baby Shower

IMG_3671

At the beginning of the month, myself, my mother in law, and my sister in laws best friend were honored to be able to put on a beautiful baby shower for my soon to be niece and sister in law. She was in town for a month, so it was the perfect time to celebrate baby Penelope Rose.

My sister in law has loved Alice in Wonderland for years and years, so when she brought up using it as a theme we jumped right into it. Messy, good cluttered, and full of wonder is really what we were thinking. Most of her friends and family came together to make this beautiful day special.

The plan was to have the shower outside, but the rain had other plans. So we went with plan B and it worked out perfectly. I hope our mother to be loved her shower as much as we did.

The best part of the whole day was seeing Cassie spend time with all of those that love and cherish this new journey and chapter that is motherhood. Baby Penny, we can't wait to meet you soon!

Miami - you win

IMG_2129
Oh Miami, what a wonderful weekend we had in your city. We had a weekend full of great food, great drinks and great people watching. Everything was great except the lack of sleep but don't they say ypu can sleep when you are dead? They must not have known how grumpy I am when I wake up. My sleep cycle officially hates you and so do my feet. So I would say it is Jessica - 0 and Miami - 1.

This past weekend, four of the wedding party and one beautiful bride to be made the trek down to Miami for a bachelorette weekend. My dearest friend Lauren is getting married in January and we wanted to take a long weekend and celebrate her. Celebrate her we did! She was decked out in bride gear from the get go. So many people were nice enough to say congratulations! Thank you citizens of Miami for that.

We stayed in a great location right on the main strip in Miami. The beach was just one street behind our hotel. Which made it so easy to walk everywhere (leading to the feet hurting issue stated above).

Miami will forever be known now as the best place to people watch for me. Almost all of the resturants have outdoor seating so that you can look out at the beach or just watch the enormous amount of people pass by. We watched this batman guy dance for our restaurant for a good 15 minutes. He was definitely the highlight of my morning. Of course, you can't forget the beautiful bride.

We went to some great places and danced our little hearts out. Now we are on to the wedding.

Weekend Getaway

IMG_2119

Sorry for the silence this week, me and the girls are heading to Miami for a long weekend to celebrate a fantastic woman and her upcoming wedding. Happy weekending to you all and we will be back to business as usual next week.

Tilly did not want me to go so she decided she was going with me.

wedding round up

20131005_153257
The weddings are over and the new Mr. and Mrs. are both at home and settling into wedded bliss. So here are some not so great quality photos of the past two weekend weddings. Love is in the air ladies and gentleman!

I was not looking at the camera, but everyone else looks adorable. These are my great co workers.

1. My dress and his tie matched, how cute right, well I think so at least. 2. Hairstyle that I wore to both weddings, because well.... that's really the only updo I know. 2.5. And introducing Miss. Seahorse, she has been with me many years. You may see her occasionally.

Second wedding weekend, and more awesome co workers.

1. The man of the hour and handsome groom. A Dub I miss you. Denver needs to send you back to us. 2. Carrie Link for you all. She is fabulous, enough said.

Please disregard the squinty eyes. It was mega bright outside.

This past weekend we not only got to see one of our good friends marry the love of his life, but we also got to spend some much needed time with my mom at the beach. The last part of the month is going to have to be really rad to beat these two weekends.

P.S. Dress one is a Guess dress found on sale at Dillard's and dress two is actually a romper found at Anthropologie.

Meet Emorie

New button image 2
Emorie is the brains behind Oh Whimsical Me. She is living in Idaho with her super adorable pups. I can't resist falling in love with a blog that has pups. Can I talk about this amazing DIY puppy bow tie tutorial she has for a minute? Perfection! This girl is so neat and her blog is too. It is a little bit of outdoorsy, a little bit of style and a whole bunch of whimsical. She talks about her adventures, recipes, crafts, pups, beauty and fashion. If you haven't read her blog yet, you just have to hop over there and say hi. Emorie was nice enough to answer a couple questions for us today. Her answers are so fun!

Sidenote: We are huge fans of Firefly in this household, so her answer to question two made me a little giddy!

What is you favorite thing to do in Boise?

Because Boise is so lovely and has so much to offer it was hard to pick just one thing. I love hiking the Boise foothills, they have a lot of dog friendly trails with great views. I love going to shows; the music scene here is great. I love spending time walking around downtown with a cup of coffee (usually from Dawson's), especially when the market is going on, but even more so on a quiet day just taking time to peek into a few shops. I love walking or biking the greenbelt along the river. Mostly just being outside, I suppose.

Give us a fun fact about you?

I may just be the biggest Sci-fi (and Fantasy) fanatic you have ever met (if not, let me know so I can meet this incredible person you know and be their best friend). I grew up watching Star Wars, Star Trek, The X-Files, Buffy, etc. so it runs in my blood. Some of my top picks are [TV series] Stargate SG-1, Battlestar Galactica, Game of Thrones (but the books are better) and Firefly as well as [movies] Moon, Sunshine, Castaway on the Moon (just a hint of sci-fi) and The Fountain. Talk to me about Sci-fi and we'll be instant friends.

What is your favorite cocktail?

I am pretty boring; I just really love a good Gin and Tonic.

Tell us about your adorable pets.

I have two dogs. Scout was my first dog and my first love; he'll be 7 this December. He is a chubby, grumpy beagle and miniature doberman pinscher mix. He loves to hunt frogs in the backyard and is too smart for his own good. You see few pictures of Scout on my blog because he hates the camera. Pippin is our new puppy love. He is 1 and has the chessiest but sweetest personality; he adds so much humor to our lives. He is a yorkie and chihuahua mix, but I'm pretty sure 90% of his genes are yorkie (or maybe fox). He loves water but hates baths, and is much simpler than Scout but just as crazy.

If you could spend one full day on the couch, what would you be watching?

I've really been in the mood for good Sci-fi lately, so I'd probably spend the day watching a few Sci-fi films I haven't seen yet. That or Breaking Bad. I binged watched the first four seasons last summer and have been watching the beginning of the fifth season now that it is on Netfix. I've been having to avoid tumblr lately to not get spoilers for these final episodes.

Meet Ella

Ella
Ella is the girl behind the fantastic blog Paper Umbrella. If you haven't heard of her yet, you just have to jump over there and say hello! She lives in Portland, Oregon (I know, I am jealous too). Her blog features some of the most creative cocktail ideas, DIY's, playlists, and of course she is just adorable! I had the opportunity to ask this lovely lady a couple questions and I guarantee you are just going to fall in love with her.

What is your favorite thing to do in Portland?

If I had to choose one thing it would probably be eating. Portland has the best food!  I especially love going to the food carts late at night with friends. I don't think I could love this city any more

Give us a fun fact about you?

I played classical violin from when I was 4.5 to my senior year of high school when I got when I got way too busy with college apps and other interests... I haven't played much since, but I don't think I will ever forget how.

What is your favorite cocktail?

My go-to cocktail this summer was a gin and tonic. It's a good drink to add different flavors to - I love adding a bit of elderflower or rhubarb syrup. I think now that the weather is cooling down I'll be switching over to spiked cider, though!

Do you have any pets?

My family has a sweet golden retriever named Tooky, but since I moved away from home he doesn't live with me anymore. I'm patiently waiting for the day when I'm settled down enough to get a puppy of my own!

If you could spend one full day on the couch, what would you be watching?

I would probably re-watch every season of How I Met Your Mother. Junior year of college my boyfriend and I got a bit obsessed and binge watched every season they had on Netflix - it's so good!
